Tio

This series of work, Tio, is a response to place.

Aramoana is a place I continue to visit throughout my life.

First as a child playing in the sand dunes, then finding my love of the moana through surfing and gathering kai.

I share this with my children now and I hope that it grounds them like it grounds me. These paintings of tio (oyster) shells are taoka (cultural treasures), reminders of our interconnectedness.

We belong together.

For us to become planetary stewards who understand that human prosperity must go hand-in-hand with protecting the planet.
